Fed up with the culture at her previous company, Megan Govea thought she needed to leave Medicare for good.
Govea had started working as a Medicare broker in 2016, straight out of college, and stayed nearly a decade because she deeply wanted to make a real difference in people's lives. But over the years, she became disappointed and disillusioned with how the industry operated. “At my previous company, the pressure to hit quotas often made it difficult to truly put the client first,” she said. She thought every brokerage was like this so her only choice was to leave the industry for good.
But as soon as she left, she realized how much she missed supporting seniors at this critical moment in their lives and began to look for companies who might be approaching the industry differently. Around the same time, a friend described a company called Chapter, where advisors were supported and seniors always came first. Megan was skeptical at first. “It honestly sounded too good to be true," she says of her first conversations with the company. But something was telling her that she should take the leap if it meant she could help seniors get the care they needed. She decided to take a chance on Chapter and started in April 2025.
Megan quickly saw that the company meant what they said and was willing to stand behind it. “At Chapter, success is built around doing the right thing,” she says. Chapter advisors regularly enroll members in plans that pay the company nothing, when those plans are the right ones for the member. Megan had spent years assuming this was not something that happened in the industry. “We recommend plans that are the best option for the member, even if Chapter makes nothing on those enrollments,” she says. “That level of integrity was something I had never experienced before.”
This meant that she could work her way and go the extra mile to ensure her clients get the care they need. "I never feel pressured to choose a sale over what's best for the member," she adds. "If I follow the process and do right by people, the results will come."
When Megan thinks of some of her proudest moments at Chapter, it’s these moments that come to mind. One example is a couple who recently asked her for help moving from one Medicare Advantage plan to another after a relocation, a request she could have processed in five minutes. Instead, because she doesn’t have to adhere to quotas, Megan was able to take the time to fully walk through and understand the situation holistically. With this extra time and context, Megan was able to help them move to a plan that could much better meet the needs of a condition that required more medical attention than an Advantage plan could offer.
"If I were still at my previous company, I might have simply moved them both to another Advantage plan and missed a chance to provide a better solution."
At the end of the day, what really matters at Chapter, and to Megan, is senior care. “We believe seniors deserve someone in their corner, someone who will take the time to listen, educate, and help them choose what is best for their individual situation.” For the many members who have had the delight of working with Megan, she is that person.
