However, there are several ways to find cheap cable TV for seniors, allowing you to enjoy your favorite programs without breaking the bank.
In this article, we will explore how older adults can lower their cable TV costs and which providers offer senior discounts and what factors to consider when selecting a cable package.
Cable providers don’t typically offer senior discounts. However, many providers offer discounts for low-income individuals, including older adults living on low, fixed incomes. If you qualify for programs like SNAP, Medicaid, or SSI, you might be eligible for discounts on your internet and/or cable services.
Some cable providers offer discounts to seniors, but discounts may vary by location and availability. It’s best to contact each provider you’re considering to ask about specific deals. Also, remember that as a new customer, you may be offered additional discounts! You can also always try to negotiate.
Xfinity, a Comcast brand, doesn’t explicitly offer a senior discount but does offer the Internet Essentials Program for low-income individuals. This program includes 75 Mbps internet, optional internet training, and access to Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots for $14.95 a month.
In some areas, the package also includes cable TV. If cable isn’t available in your area through this program, you can supplement the internet plan with various streaming packages.
Spectrum is known for being an affordable cable service provider, even without extra discounts. If you already have an internet contract with Spectrum, you can add on TV Stream for $40 a month. This package comes with 85+ channels and includes a Xumo Stream Box.

AT&T offers discounts for phone services through the AARP and Lifeline programs, but these discounts don’t extend to internet or TV services. However, U-verse, which typically includes internet, digital phone, and on-demand TV services, offers a plan with 300 Mbps for around $65 per month. The exact price depends on your location.
Dish Network offers a special plan for individuals over 55 that includes one free movie rental per month, which could save you up to $165 per year. Their most affordable cable plan costs $86.99 per month and includes 190 channels, plus access to over 28,000 free on-demand titles.
Through the Lifeline program, Verizon offers a discount to eligible adults on their home phone and internet service. Verizon also offers Fios TV, with prices ranging between $79 and $139 per month, depending on the package.

While these discounts still require a monthly payment, they can help significantly reduce the overall cost of cable TV services.
Additionally, through government funding or public donations, you can access over-the-air (OTA) television broadcasts by connecting an antenna to your TV. This service provides access to basic local channels like ABC, NBC, CBS, and PBS, which can be a great way to enjoy TV without the expense of a cable subscription.
While free cable TV packages for seniors aren’t an option, there are still a few ways to reduce the amount you spend each month. Here are a few strategies to consider:

Be sure to call various providers in your area to see which promotions they’re currently offering before you make a decision.
